Eating well for eczema | Papaya and banana smoothie

This is a delicious, eczema friendly smoothie with plenty of flavour if you use ripe bananas and papaya. Leaving the smoothie in the fridge for half an hour helps the flavours to develop even more. Your little ones can help with peeling and slicing the bananas ready to be liquidised and they’ll have fun scooping out the seeds with a spoon too!

Papaya is packed with vitamin C which has antihistamine properties, helping to relieve some of the symptoms of eczema. To read more about how vitamins and minerals can help with the management of your little one’s eczema, click here.

Ingredients

  • 1 ripe banana, peeled and sliced
  • 1 papaya, halved, seeds removed and peeled

Eczema friendly papaya and banana smoothies, served in mini milk bottles with red and white striped paper straws. The orange smoothie contrasts with the blue and white background.
Papaya is rich in vitamin C which is a natural antihistamine as well as supporting liver function, an often over-looked tool in modern eczema management. Bananas contain high levels of inflammation-fighting potassium.

Method

  1. Put the sliced banana and papaya in a liquidiser.
  2. Add the oat milk and lime juice and whizz up until smooth. Add a little more oat milk if
necessary to get the required consistency.
  3. Put in the fridge for ½ hour for the flavours to develop.
  4. Pour into little bottles and serve with straws.
